    Product Description:
Noscapine hydrochloride is the hydrochloride salt of noscapine, a naturally occurring phthalideisoquinoline alkaloid primarily derived from the opium poppy (*Papaver somniferum*). It is a white to off-white crystalline powder with the molecular formula C22H23NO7·HCl. Historically, noscapine has been widely used as an antitussive (cough suppressant) agent. Its mechanism of action involves central suppression of the cough reflex, acting on the cough center in the medulla oblongata. Unlike codeine, it has minimal analgesic and sedative effects and a low potential for addiction, making it a common non-opioid cough medication in many over-the-counter and prescription formulations. Beyond its established use in respiratory medicine, noscapine has been investigated for other pharmacological activities, most notably for its potential as an anticancer agent. Research indicates it can bind to tubulin, inhibit microtubule dynamics, and induce apoptosis in various cancer cell lines. It is also studied for its anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective properties.
