    Product Description:
Sodium alginate is a natural linear polysaccharide derived from brown seaweed. It is composed of β-D-mannuronic acid (M) and α-L-guluronic acid (G) units linked by 1,4-glycosidic bonds. This biopolymer is commercially available as a white to yellowish-brown powder or granules, soluble in water to form viscous colloidal solutions. Its primary applications leverage its unique gelling, thickening, stabilizing, and film-forming properties. In the pharmaceutical industry, it is widely used as a binder, disintegrant, and sustained-release matrix in tablets, as well as a thickener and stabilizer in liquid formulations and wound dressings. In the food industry, it serves as a key thickener, gelling agent, and stabilizer in products like ice cream, yogurt, jellies, and salad dressings. It is also employed in textile printing, paper manufacturing, and as an impression material in dentistry. The gelation of sodium alginate occurs in the presence of divalent cations (e.g., Ca²⁺), forming an "egg-box" structure, which is fundamental to its functionality in controlled release and food texture modification. It is generally recognized as safe (GRAS) by regulatory bodies for use in food and pharmaceuticals.
