    Product Description:
Hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose (HPMC) is a semisynthetic, inert, and viscoelastic polymer derived from cellulose. Chemically, it is a methylcellulose modified with a small amount of propylene glycol ether groups attached to the anhydroglucose backbone. Its properties, such as thermal gelation and water retention, are highly dependent on the degree of substitution and molecular weight. As a multifunctional pharmaceutical excipient, HPMC is most widely used as a binder in wet granulation and as a film-coating agent for tablets. It also serves as a matrix former in extended-release formulations, a suspending agent in liquid orals, and a viscosity-increasing agent in ophthalmic solutions. Its safety, biocompatibility, and ability to form stable hydrogels make it a critical component in modern drug delivery systems. Beyond pharmaceuticals, HPMC is a key ingredient in food as a thickener and emulsifier, and in construction materials like cement and gypsum for water retention. Its non-ionic nature ensures compatibility with a wide range of active ingredients and other excipients.
