    Product Description:
(±)-Menthol, also known as racemic menthol, is a monoterpenoid alcohol. It is a stereoisomer mixture of the naturally occurring (-)-menthol, which is the primary active component of peppermint oil. It appears as white crystals or a crystalline powder with a characteristic, penetrating, minty odor and a cooling taste sensation. Its primary applications are as a flavoring and fragrance agent. In the food and beverage industry, it is widely used to impart a mint flavor to products such as candies, chewing gum, and oral care items. In cosmetics and personal care, it is a key ingredient in products like toothpaste, mouthwash, shaving creams, and topical analgesics due to its cooling and refreshing properties. It also finds use in industrial applications, including as a fragrance in household cleaners and air fresheners. The cooling effect of menthol is mediated by its action on the TRPM8 receptor in sensory neurons. While it is generally recognized as safe (GRAS) for use in food and cosmetics, high concentrations can cause skin or mucous membrane irritation. The racemic form is often used as a cost-effective alternative to the natural (-)-isomer in various applications where the specific stereochemistry is less critical.
