    Product Description:
Sodium glycocholate is the sodium salt of glycocholic acid, a primary bile acid conjugate formed from cholic acid and glycine. It is a natural, steroidal amphiphilic molecule with a rigid steroid nucleus and a hydrophilic side chain terminated with a carboxylate group. Its primary application is as a pharmaceutical excipient, specifically a biological surfactant and absorption enhancer. It is widely used to improve the solubility and intestinal absorption of poorly water-soluble drugs, including in lipid-based drug delivery systems and self-emulsifying drug delivery systems (SEDDS). It functions by forming mixed micelles, which solubilize lipophilic compounds and can transiently increase membrane permeability. In research, sodium glycocholate serves as a key biochemical reagent in studies of bile acid metabolism, membrane biology, and as a component in simulated intestinal fluids for in vitro dissolution testing. It is also used to investigate its role in cholesterol homeostasis and as a signaling molecule.
