    Product Description:
2-Amino-6-mercaptopurine-9-D-riboside, also known as 6-Thioguanosine, is a purine nucleoside analog. It is structurally derived from guanosine by the substitution of an oxygen atom with sulfur at the 6-position of the purine ring. This compound is a key intermediate in the synthesis of the important antimetabolite drug, 6-Thioguanine. The primary and most significant application of this compound is in the field of oncology. It serves as a direct precursor in the synthesis of 6-Thioguanine (6-TG), a well-established chemotherapeutic agent used in the treatment of acute leukemias, particularly acute myeloid leukemia (AML). 6-TG is incorporated into DNA and RNA, interfering with nucleic acid synthesis and function, thereby inhibiting the proliferation of cancer cells. As such, this riboside is fundamentally an active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) intermediate. Given its role as a nucleoside derivative with specific therapeutic relevance, it is also categorized under biochemicals and life science reagents. It is used in biochemical research to study purine metabolism, nucleotide salvage pathways, and the mechanisms of action of antimetabolite drugs.
