    Product Description:
Mecamylamine hydrochloride is a secondary amine compound with the chemical formula C11H21N·HCl. It is a non-depolarizing ganglionic blocking agent that acts as a competitive antagonist at nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) in autonomic ganglia. Historically, mecamylamine hydrochloride was used as an orally active antihypertensive agent for the treatment of severe and malignant hypertension. Its primary mechanism of action involves blocking sympathetic ganglia, leading to vasodilation and a reduction in blood pressure. In modern research, it has gained significant interest as a non-competitive antagonist of neuronal nAChRs, particularly in studies related to nicotine addiction, neuropathic pain, and central nervous system disorders such as Tourette syndrome and depression. Its ability to cross the blood-brain barrier distinguishes it from other ganglionic blockers. Due to the advent of more selective and better-tolerated antihypertensive drugs, its clinical use has been largely discontinued. However, it remains a valuable pharmacological tool in neuroscience research for investigating the role of nAChRs.
