    Product Description:
Bambuterol hydrochloride is a hydrochloride salt of bambuterol, which is a carbamate prodrug of the β2-adrenergic receptor agonist terbutaline. It is a white to off-white crystalline powder. The prodrug design enhances oral bioavailability and prolongs the duration of action by slowing the release of the active metabolite, terbutaline. Bambuterol hydrochloride is primarily used as an active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) in the treatment of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It functions as a long-acting bronchodilator, relaxing the smooth muscles in the airways to improve breathing. Its classification as a prodrug allows for once-daily dosing, improving patient compliance. It has also been investigated for potential neurological applications, such as in the treatment of spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), due to its ability to potentially modulate the survival motor neuron (SMN) protein levels, although this is not its primary approved indication. The compound is typically administered orally. As with other β2-agonists, potential side effects include tremor, tachycardia, and headache. It is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity and should be used with caution in those with cardiovascular disorders.
