    Product Description:
Anecortave acetate is a synthetic steroid derivative, specifically an angiostatic cortisene. It is structurally related to cortisol but lacks glucocorticoid activity, functioning primarily as an angiogenesis inhibitor. Its primary and most significant application is in ophthalmology for the treatment of age-related macular degeneration (AMD). It works by inhibiting the formation of new, leaky blood vessels (choroidal neovascularization) that cause vision loss in wet AMD. It is administered as a posterior juxtascleral depot injection. While not a first-line therapy like anti-VEGF agents, it has been investigated for its potential long-lasting effect and different mechanism of action. Anecortave acetate is classified as a pharmaceutical active ingredient (API). Its development and use are strictly within the domain of prescription ophthalmic medications, targeting specific pathological processes in the eye.
