    Product Description:
1,3-Dibromo-5,5-dimethylhydantoin (DBDMH, CAS 77-48-5) is a white to off-white crystalline solid with a bromine-like odor. It is a brominating and oxidizing agent, characterized by its two labile bromine atoms attached to the hydantoin ring, which are readily released in solution. Its primary application is as a stable and efficient source of positive bromine (Br_) for bromination reactions in organic synthesis, including the bromination of alkenes, alkynes, and aromatic compounds. Additionally, DBDMH is widely used as a disinfectant, sanitizer, and algicide in industrial water treatment, swimming pools, and cooling towers, where it slowly releases hypobromous acid to control microbial growth. It also serves as a bleaching agent and a mildewcide in various industrial formulations. DBDMH is preferred over liquid bromine due to its solid form, ease of handling, and safer storage profile. It is typically stable under normal conditions but should be kept away from strong reducing agents and combustible materials to prevent hazardous reactions.
