    Product Description:
Nitrazepam, chemically known as 1,3-dihydro-7-nitro-5-phenyl-2H-1,4-benzodiazepin-2-one, is a benzodiazepine derivative. It is a white to yellowish crystalline powder, practically insoluble in water but soluble in organic solvents like chloroform and acetone. Its molecular formula is C₁₅H₁₁N₃O₃. Nitrazepam is primarily used as a sedative and hypnotic agent in the treatment of insomnia and certain types of epilepsy, particularly infantile spasms (West syndrome). It acts as a positive allosteric modulator of the GABA_A receptor in the central nervous system, enhancing the inhibitory effects of the neurotransmitter GABA, which results in sedative, hypnotic, anxiolytic, and anticonvulsant effects. Due to its potential for dependence, tolerance, and side effects such as drowsiness and ataxia, its use is now more restricted and typically recommended for short-term management. It is also a key intermediate in the synthesis of other benzodiazepine drugs.
