    Product Description:
Dexlansoprazole is the R-enantiomer of lansoprazole. It is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that acts by irreversibly inhibiting the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme system at the secretory surface of the gastric parietal cell, thereby suppressing gastric acid secretion. Its primary and approved medical application is in the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), including healing and maintenance of erosive esophagitis, and relief of heartburn. While its direct therapeutic target is the gastrointestinal system, its mechanism of action and clinical use are distinct from classical cardiovascular or neurological agents. The classification under cardiovascular and nervous system drugs appears to be a potential error in some databases, as dexlanoprazole is not indicated for heart conditions or central nervous system disorders. It is specifically a gastrointestinal drug. Dexlansoprazole is formulated in a dual delayed-release (DDR) capsule designed to provide two separate releases of the drug, prolonging its plasma concentration and allowing for once-daily dosing. Common side effects include diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, and upper respiratory tract infection.
