    Product Description:
Clopidogrel besylate is the besylate salt form of clopidogrel, a thienopyridine-class antiplatelet agent. It is a prodrug that requires hepatic metabolism to generate an active metabolite. This active metabolite irreversibly inhibits the P2Y12 subtype of the adenosine diphosphate (ADP) receptor on platelet cell membranes, thereby preventing platelet activation and aggregation. As an active pharmaceutical ingredient (API), clopidogrel besylate is primarily used in the formulation of oral medications for the prevention of atherothrombotic events. Its key clinical applications include the secondary prevention of stroke, myocardial infarction, and vascular death in patients with a history of atherosclerotic disease, as well as the management of acute coronary syndrome and following percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with stent placement. It is often used in combination with aspirin for dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT). The besylate salt form is utilized to improve the stability, solubility, and manufacturability of the final drug product compared to other salt forms. Proper handling is required during API processing due to its pharmacological activity.
