    Product Description:
Strophanthidin is a cardenolide aglycone, the core steroid structure derived from the hydrolysis of cardiac glycosides such as ouabain (g-strophanthin) and k-strophanthin. It is a white to off-white crystalline powder with the molecular formula C23H32O6. As a key pharmacophore, it lacks the sugar moiety (glycone) present in the parent glycosides. This compound is a potent inhibitor of the Na+/K+-ATPase (sodium-potassium pump) in cardiac myocytes. By inhibiting this pump, it increases intracellular sodium and calcium concentrations, leading to a positive inotropic effect (increased force of cardiac muscle contraction). Historically, its glycoside derivatives were used in the treatment of congestive heart failure and certain cardiac arrhythmias. Strophanthidin itself is primarily used in pharmacological research as a reference standard and a tool compound to study the mechanisms of cardiac glycosides, ion transport, and digitalis toxicity. Due to its high potency and narrow therapeutic index, strophanthidin and its derivatives require careful handling and precise dosing. It serves as a crucial intermediate and reference point in the study of natural product-derived cardiotonic agents.
