Product Description:

Metalaxyl is a systemic phenylamide fungicide. Chemically, it is methyl N-(methoxyacetyl)-N-(2,6-xylyl)-DL-alaninate, belonging to the acylalanine class. It is a racemic mixture, with the R-enantiomer (mefenoxam) being the biologically active form. Its primary application is in agriculture for the control of plant diseases caused by oomycete pathogens, particularly those in the genera *Phytophthora*, *Pythium*, and downy mildews. It acts systemically by inhibiting RNA polymerase I in the target organisms, disrupting ribosomal RNA synthesis. It is widely used as a seed treatment, soil drench, and foliar spray on a variety of crops including vegetables, fruits, ornamentals, and turf. Metalaxyl is known for its specific mode of action and high efficacy. However, due to the risk of resistance development, it is often recommended for use in mixture with fungicides having different modes of action. It is a key active ingredient in numerous commercial fungicide formulations globally.
