    Product Description:
5-Norbornene-2-carboxaldehyde is a bicyclic organic compound featuring a reactive aldehyde group attached to the norbornene skeleton. This structure combines the strained, rigid geometry of the norbornene unit with the versatile reactivity of an aldehyde functional group. Its primary and most significant application is as a key monomer or precursor in the synthesis of advanced polymeric materials, particularly for the electronics industry. It is extensively used in the production of cyclic olefin copolymers (COCs) and other specialty polymers that serve as photoresists, dielectric layers, and encapsulation materials in organic light-emitting diode (OLED) displays and other optoelectronic devices. The norbornene moiety enables ring-opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) or addition polymerization to form polymers with high thermal stability, transparency, and low dielectric constant. As a bifunctional building block, it is also employed in organic synthesis, where the aldehyde group can undergo various condensation and addition reactions (e.g., Wittig, aldol) to construct more complex molecular architectures, often for materials science research.
