    Product Description:
3-Allyloxy-2-hydroxy-1-propanesulfonic acid sodium salt (AHPS) is a sulfonate-functionalized monomer. Its chemical structure features an allyl ether group, a secondary hydroxyl group, and a sulfonate sodium salt group, making it a versatile reactive intermediate. The primary application of AHPS is in the field of polymer chemistry, particularly as a functional monomer for the synthesis of specialty polymers. It is copolymerized with other monomers (e.g., acrylamide, acrylic acid) to introduce hydrophilic, anionic, and crosslinkable sites into polymer chains. These resulting polymers are widely used as scale inhibitors and dispersants in water treatment systems, especially for industrial cooling water and oilfield applications, where they effectively control the deposition of calcium carbonate, calcium sulfate, and other inorganic scales. The allyl group allows for further cross-linking or modification. Additionally, due to its sulfonate and hydroxyl functionalities, AHPS serves as a surface-active agent and a precursor for surface modification. It can be used to impart hydrophilicity and anti-fouling properties to materials, finding relevance in the development of functional coatings and surface treatment formulations.
