    Product Description:
Sodium rhodizonate, with the chemical formula C6Na2O6, is the disodium salt of rhodizonic acid. It typically appears as a yellow to orange-red crystalline powder and is soluble in water, forming solutions that are sensitive to light and air. This compound is primarily employed as a highly sensitive and selective analytical reagent in inorganic chemistry. Its most notable application is as a spot-test reagent for the detection and qualitative analysis of certain metal ions, particularly barium, strontium, lead, and sulfate ions. The reaction with these cations produces characteristic, intensely colored precipitates (e.g., red-brown with barium), making it a valuable tool in forensic science for gunshot residue analysis (detecting lead and barium) and in environmental testing. Due to its chelating properties, it also finds use in titrimetric analysis and as a colorimetric indicator. It is considered toxic if ingested and an irritant to skin and eyes, requiring careful handling in laboratory settings.
