    Suc-Ala-Ala-Ala-pNA is a synthetic tetrapeptide substrate, where the N-terminus is blocked by a succinyl (Suc) group and the C-terminus is linked to a para-nitroaniline (pNA) chromogenic group. This specific sequence and modification make it a highly specialized biochemical tool. Its primary and well-established application is as a chromogenic substrate for the detection and kinetic study of various serine proteases, most notably elastase and subtilisin. Upon enzymatic cleavage of the peptide bond adjacent to the pNA group, free p-nitroaniline is released, resulting in a measurable increase in absorbance at 405-410 nm. This property makes it an essential reagent in enzymology research, high-throughput screening for protease inhibitors, and diagnostic assay development.
