    Product Description:
1,10-Phenanthroline monohydrate is a heterocyclic organic compound featuring a phenanthroline core structure. It is a white to off-white crystalline powder that is soluble in water and common organic solvents. The monohydrate form is the most common commercially available grade. Its primary and most significant application is as a highly sensitive and selective chelating agent and colorimetric indicator in analytical chemistry. It forms intensely colored, stable complexes with various metal ions, most notably the orange-red complex with ferrous iron (Fe²⁺), which is the basis for the widely used "phenanthroline method" for the spectrophotometric determination of iron. It is also employed in the analysis of other metals like copper and ruthenium. Furthermore, it serves as a versatile ligand in coordination chemistry for constructing metal-organic complexes and catalysts. Beyond its analytical role, 1,10-phenanthroline is a fundamental building block in organic synthesis and materials science. It is used to synthesize more complex phenanthroline derivatives, which find applications as components in electrochemiluminescence (ECL) systems, DNA intercalators in biochemical studies, and as structural units in the development of photosensitizers and light-emitting materials.
