Glutinone, also known as alnusone, is a naturally occurring triterpenoid compound. It is a characteristic constituent isolated from the bark of *Alnus* species (e.g., *Alnus glutinosa*, the common alder). Its chemical structure is based on a lupane-type skeleton, specifically identified as 3-oxo-20(29)-lupen-28-oic acid. This compound has attracted significant research interest primarily for its notable biological activities. Studies have demonstrated that glutinone possesses potent cytotoxic effects against various human cancer cell lines, including leukemia, breast cancer, and lung cancer cells. Its mechanism of action is associated with the induction of apoptosis (programmed cell death) and cell cycle arrest.
