    Product Description:
1,6-Anhydro-β-D-glucopyranose, also known as levoglucosan, is a bicyclic monosaccharide derivative formed by an intramolecular 1,6-anhydro linkage. It is a white crystalline solid and is the major product of the pyrolysis of cellulose and starch. This compound serves as a versatile chiral building block in organic synthesis, particularly for the preparation of complex carbohydrates, glycoconjugates, and other bioactive molecules. Its rigid bicyclic structure provides a defined stereochemical template. In life sciences, it is used as a starting material for synthesizing glycosidase inhibitors, unnatural sugars, and other carbohydrate-based probes. It is also a biomarker for atmospheric particulate matter originating from biomass burning. Levoglucosan is commercially available as a high-purity reagent for research purposes. It is generally stable under standard conditions but should be protected from moisture.
