    Product Description:
Meso-1,2,3,4-Butanetetracarboxylic acid (BTCA) is a symmetrical tetracarboxylic acid with the molecular formula C8H10O8. It is a white crystalline powder and is considered a non-toxic, environmentally friendly compound. Its structure features four carboxyl groups arranged around a butane backbone, providing multiple reactive sites for cross-linking reactions. The primary and most significant application of BTCA is as a non-formaldehyde, durable press finishing agent for cotton and cellulose-based textiles. It serves as a polycarboxylic acid crosslinker that forms ester linkages with the hydroxyl groups of cellulose fibers under catalytic conditions (e.g., with sodium hypophosphite). This application effectively replaces traditional, formaldehyde-releasing agents like dimethyloldihydroxyethyleneurea (DMDHEU), making it a key component in the production of wrinkle-resistant, shrink-proof, and smooth-drying fabrics with improved durability and environmental safety. Beyond textile finishing, BTCA is investigated as a monomer or crosslinker in the synthesis of specialty polymers, including polyesters, polyamides, and hydrogels, due to its ability to introduce multiple functional groups and enhance polymer network density. It is also studied as a corrosion inhibitor and in membrane technology. Its handling requires standard precautions for carboxylic acids, including avoiding inhalation of dust and contact with eyes and skin.
