    Product Description:
(3R,6R)-(+)-3,6-dimethyl-1,4-dioxane-2,5-dione, commonly known as L-lactide, is a cyclic diester derived from L-lactic acid. It is a white crystalline solid with a melting point around 95-98буC. The molecule features a six-membered ring containing two ester linkages, which makes it highly reactive towards ring-opening polymerization. L-lactide is primarily used as a monomer for the synthesis of high molecular weight poly(L-lactic acid) (PLLA), a biodegradable and biocompatible thermoplastic. PLLA is extensively employed in biomedical applications such as resorbable surgical sutures, bone fixation devices, drug delivery systems, and tissue engineering scaffolds. In the packaging industry, it serves as a key raw material for compostable plastics and films. Additionally, L-lactide is utilized in the pharmaceutical sector as a precursor for functional excipients and controlled-release formulations. Its high optical purity ensures the production of isotactic PLLA with superior mechanical strength and thermal stability. The compound is typically stored under dry, cool conditions to prevent hydrolysis and should be handled with standard laboratory safety practices.
