    Product Description:
Fluorometholone acetate is a synthetic corticosteroid. It is the acetate ester prodrug of fluorometholone, a potent glucocorticoid receptor agonist. The compound is characterized by the presence of fluorine atoms and an acetate group on its steroidal backbone, which enhance its lipophilicity and anti-inflammatory potency. Its primary and well-defined application is in ophthalmic medicine. Fluorometholone acetate is used as an active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) in eye drops and ointments for the treatment of inflammatory conditions of the eye, such as allergic conjunctivitis, uveitis, and postoperative inflammation. It works by inhibiting the release of inflammatory mediators and reducing edema, capillary dilation, and leukocyte migration. Compared to its parent compound fluorometholone, the acetate ester form is considered a prodrug. It is hydrolyzed by esterases in ocular tissues to release the active fluorometholone, which may allow for a more targeted and sustained anti-inflammatory effect at the site of application. It is a prescription medication and its use is associated with typical corticosteroid precautions regarding intraocular pressure and potential for infection.
