    Jinggangmycin is a water-soluble aminoglycoside antibiotic produced by *Streptomyces hygroscopicus* var. *jinggangensis*. It is a complex of several closely related components, with jinggangmycin A being the major active constituent. Its primary and most significant application is in agriculture as a highly effective and systemic fungicide. It specifically targets and inhibits the growth of *Rhizoctonia solani*, the causative agent of sheath blight in rice, making it a crucial crop protection agent in rice cultivation, particularly in Asia. The compound acts by interfering with the pathogen's cell wall synthesis and mycelial growth. Beyond plant protection, jinggangmycin and its derivatives have shown activity against certain fungal pathogens in animals, positioning it as a candidate for animal disease control. It is considered to have low toxicity to mammals and is environmentally friendly, contributing to its widespread use in integrated pest management programs.
