    Product Description:
L-(-)-Camphorsulfonic acid is a chiral organic acid derived from camphor. It is a white to off-white crystalline powder that is highly soluble in water and polar organic solvents. Its structure features a rigid bicyclic framework with a sulfonic acid group, making it a strong, non-hygroscopic acid. Its primary and most significant application is in the pharmaceutical industry as a chiral resolving agent. It is extensively used to separate enantiomers of amines, amino alcohols, and other basic compounds via diastereomeric salt formation. This makes it a critical tool in the production of enantiomerically pure active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). Additionally, it serves as an efficient and recyclable chiral Brønsted acid catalyst in various asymmetric organic synthesis reactions, such as the Pictet–Spengler reaction and Mukaiyama aldol reactions. Beyond its role in synthesis and resolution, L-(-)-CSA is also utilized as an acid catalyst in polymerizations (e.g., for conductive polyaniline) and as a component in electrochemical applications. It is generally considered a stable and versatile reagent, though standard safety precautions for handling strong acids should be observed.
