    Product Description:
Dicloxacillin sodium is a sodium salt of dicloxacillin, a semisynthetic penicillin antibiotic. It is a beta-lactam antibiotic belonging to the penicillinase-resistant penicillin class, specifically an isoxazolyl penicillin. Its chemical structure features a 6-aminopenicillanic acid core with a 3-(2,6-dichlorophenyl)-5-methyl-4-isoxazolyl side chain, which confers resistance to staphylococcal beta-lactamase enzymes. Its primary and well-established application is as an active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) for the treatment of infections caused by penicillinase-producing staphylococci. It is used in oral formulations for skin and soft tissue infections, respiratory tract infections, and other susceptible bacterial infections. Beyond its antibacterial use, dicloxacillin has been investigated in research for its potential neuroprotective effects. Studies suggest it may act as an antagonist of the P2X7 receptor, a key player in neuroinflammation, indicating potential utility in neurological conditions such as neuropathic pain and neurodegenerative diseases. As an API, it is not a general-purpose synthetic building block or reagent. Its handling requires standard precautions for beta-lactam antibiotics to prevent sensitization.
