    Product Description:
D-(+)-10-Camphorsulfonic acid (CSA) is a chiral, strong organic acid derived from camphor. It is a white to off-white crystalline powder with the molecular formula C₁₀H₁₆O₄S and a molecular weight of 232.30 g/mol. Its key structural feature is the rigid bicyclic camphor skeleton attached to a sulfonic acid group, which confers strong acidity and chirality. In the pharmaceutical industry, CSA is primarily used as a chiral resolving agent for the separation of racemic mixtures of amines and amino acids via diastereomeric salt formation. It is also employed as an acid catalyst in various organic synthesis reactions, particularly in esterifications and the synthesis of chiral compounds. Furthermore, its strong acidic nature makes it useful as a component in buffer systems and as a counterion in pharmaceutical salts to improve the physicochemical properties of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). Beyond synthesis, D-(+)-CSA finds application in asymmetric catalysis and as a standard in chiral chromatography. It is generally considered a stable compound but requires handling with standard precautions for strong acids, including the use of personal protective equipment to avoid irritation to the skin, eyes, and respiratory system.
