    Product Description:
3-(Tris(hydroxymethyl)methylamino)-1-propanesulfonic acid, commonly known as TAPS, is a zwitterionic organic compound with the chemical formula C7H17NO6S. It is a member of the Good's buffers family, characterized by its high water solubility, minimal UV absorption, and low metal ion binding capacity. TAPS is typically supplied as a white crystalline powder. TAPS is primarily used as a biological buffer in biochemical and molecular biology research. Its effective buffering range is pH 7.7 to 9.1 (pKa ~8.4 at 25°C), making it suitable for applications requiring a slightly alkaline environment. It is commonly employed in cell culture media, enzyme assays, electrophoresis, and chromatography to maintain stable pH conditions with minimal interference to biological systems. Its properties help stabilize proteins and other biomolecules. Beyond life sciences, TAPS finds use in analytical chemistry as a component of buffer solutions for capillary electrophoresis and other separation techniques. It is also utilized in some diagnostic kits. As a specialty chemical with a defined sulfonic acid and tertiary amine structure, it can serve as a synthetic building block or a source of specific functional groups in organic synthesis, though this is not its primary application.
