    Product Description:
2-Deoxy-2-fluoro-D-glucose (2-FDG), CAS 29702-43-0, is a glucose analog where the hydroxyl group at the C-2 position is replaced by a fluorine atom. This structural modification significantly alters its metabolic pathway compared to natural glucose. Its primary and most critical application is as a precursor for the synthesis of the positron emission tomography (PET) imaging agent, 2-deoxy-2-[¹⁸F]fluoro-D-glucose ([¹⁸F]FDG). [¹⁸F]FDG is the most widely used radiopharmaceutical in clinical oncology, neurology, and cardiology for diagnosing and monitoring diseases like cancer, epilepsy, and myocardial viability. The non-radioactive 2-FDG serves as a crucial reference standard, cold standard, and impurity control material in the quality control and validation of [¹⁸F]FDG production and synthesis processes. Due to its role as a key intermediate and reference compound specifically for a major diagnostic radiopharmaceutical, it is classified under life science reagents and drug reference standards. It is not a general-purpose synthetic building block.
