    Product Description:
N-Methylcaprolactam is a colorless to pale yellow liquid with the molecular formula C7H13NO. It is a derivative of ε-caprolactam, where the amide nitrogen is methylated. This structural modification significantly alters its physical and chemical properties compared to the parent compound. Its primary industrial application is as a high-boiling, polar aprotic solvent. It is particularly valued in the polymer industry for the synthesis and processing of high-performance polymers, including polyamides (nylons), polyimides, and aramid fibers. Its excellent solvating power, high thermal stability, and low volatility make it suitable for demanding processes such as high-temperature polymerizations and as a spinning solvent for synthetic fibers. It also finds use as a reaction medium in organic synthesis and as a plasticizer. N-Methylcaprolactam is also utilized as a chemical intermediate. It serves as a precursor or building block in organic synthesis, particularly for introducing the N-methylated lactam moiety into more complex molecules. Handling requires caution as it is hygroscopic and can cause irritation to the skin, eyes, and respiratory system.
