    Product Description:
4-(2-Thiazolylazo)-resorcinol (TAR) is an azo compound characterized by a thiazole ring linked to a resorcinol moiety via an azo (-N=N-) bridge. It is a dark red to brown crystalline powder with the CAS number 2246-46-0. This compound is primarily known as a highly sensitive and selective chromogenic reagent in analytical chemistry. It forms stable, intensely colored complexes with various metal ions, most notably cobalt(II), nickel(II), copper(II), and palladium(II). These complexes exhibit distinct absorption maxima, making TAR a valuable spectrophotometric reagent for the quantitative determination and trace analysis of these metals in environmental, industrial, and biological samples. Its selectivity can be modulated by controlling the pH of the solution. As a heterocyclic azo dye derivative containing both a thiazole and a resorcinol unit, it also serves as a specialized organic synthesis building block for the preparation of more complex ligands, dyes, or functional materials. It should be handled with care as an irritant.
