    Product Description:
Safinamide mesylate is the mesylate salt form of safinamide. It is a highly selective and reversible monoamine oxidase B (MAO-B) inhibitor. The compound is characterized by its α-aminoamide structure, which incorporates a benzyloxy moiety. Safinamide mesylate is the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) used in the treatment of Parkinson's disease. It is administered as an adjunct therapy to levodopa/carbidopa in patients experiencing "off" episodes. Its dual mechanism of action involves not only MAO-B inhibition, which increases dopamine levels in the brain, but also modulation of glutamate release via state- and use-dependent sodium channel blockade. As a commercial drug substance, safinamide mesylate is subject to strict pharmacopoeial standards (e.g., USP, EP). Consequently, related substances and process impurities of safinamide are critical for quality control, making safinamide mesylate and its derivatives important as reference standards and impurity markers in pharmaceutical analysis.
