    Product Description:
Chlorin e6 is a naturally occurring chlorin-type compound, a derivative of chlorophyll. It is a dark green to brown powder and serves as a key intermediate in the synthesis of various porphyrin-based photosensitizers. Its structure features a tetrapyrrole macrocycle with a characteristic chlorin ring (a dihydroporphyrin), which gives it strong absorption in the red and near-infrared regions of the light spectrum. Its primary and most significant application is in the field of photodynamic therapy (PDT) for cancer treatment. As a potent photosensitizer, Chlorin e6 accumulates in tumor tissues and, upon irradiation with specific wavelengths of light, generates reactive oxygen species (ROS) that selectively destroy cancer cells. It is also widely used in photodynamic antimicrobial chemotherapy (PACT) and as a fluorescent probe in bioimaging due to its excellent optical properties. Beyond biomedical applications, Chlorin e6 and its derivatives are important precursors in the development of organic dyes and functional materials. They are researched for use in organic solar cells (OPVs) and as sensitizers in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) due to their ability to absorb a broad range of sunlight. Its dual role highlights its importance in both life sciences and advanced material chemistry.
