    Product Description:
4-Nitrophenyl α-D-maltoside is a synthetic chromogenic glycoside derivative of maltose. Its chemical structure consists of a maltose (α-D-glucopyranosyl-(1→4)-D-glucose) unit linked via an α-glycosidic bond to a 4-nitrophenyl aglycone. This compound is a white to off-white crystalline powder. This compound is primarily used as a chromogenic substrate for the assay of α-glucosidase and α-amylase enzymes. The enzymatic hydrolysis of the glycosidic bond releases the yellow-colored 4-nitrophenolate ion, which can be easily quantified spectrophotometrically at around 400-405 nm. This property makes it a valuable reagent in biochemical research, clinical diagnostics for enzyme activity determination, and in the screening of enzyme inhibitors for conditions like diabetes. As a specialized glycoside with a defined structure, it also serves as a synthetic building block in carbohydrate chemistry for the preparation of more complex oligosaccharide analogs or glycoconjugates. It is handled as a laboratory chemical with standard precautions.
