    Product Description:
2,2,4-Trimethyl-1,3-pentanediol (TMPD, CAS 144-19-4) is a branched, aliphatic diol. It is a white, crystalline solid with a characteristic odor. Its structure features two hydroxyl groups attached to a central carbon chain with methyl substituents, imparting steric hindrance and influencing its reactivity and physical properties. The primary industrial application of TMPD is as a key monomer in the production of high-performance polymers. It is extensively used in the synthesis of unsaturated polyester resins (UPRs) and alkyd resins. The bulky structure of TMPD contributes to resins with excellent hydrolytic stability, chemical resistance, and weatherability. These properties make TMPD-based resins valuable for coatings, gel coats (especially for marine and automotive applications), and fiber-reinforced plastics. It also serves as a precursor for plasticizers and as a building block in organic synthesis.
