    Vinblastine sulfate is a sulfate salt of vinblastine, a naturally occurring bisindole alkaloid derived from the Madagascar periwinkle plant, *Catharanthus roseus*. It is a complex molecule consisting of two multi-ringed indole units, catharanthine and vindoline, linked together. The compound is typically supplied as a white to slightly yellow, crystalline powder that is soluble in water and methanol. As a key antineoplastic agent, vinblastine sulfate is primarily used in the treatment of various cancers, most notably Hodgkin's and non-Hodgkin's lymphomas, as well as testicular cancer, breast cancer, and Kaposi's sarcoma. Its mechanism of action involves binding to tubulin, thereby inhibiting microtubule formation and arresting cell division during metaphase. This disrupts the mitotic spindle apparatus, leading to cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in rapidly dividing cells. Due to its potent cytotoxicity, vinblastine sulfate is classified as a hazardous substance and requires careful handling. It is administered intravenously under clinical supervision. As a plant-derived natural product, it is also a significant compound in pharmacological research and serves as a reference standard in analytical studies.
