    Product Description:
21-Desacetyl Deflazacort is a synthetic pregnane derivative and a key intermediate in the synthesis of the corticosteroid drug deflazacort. Its chemical name is (11β,16β)-11-hydroxy-2'-methyl-5'h-pregna-1,4-dieno[17,16-d]oxazole-3,20-dione. This compound is structurally characterized by the presence of a fused oxazole ring at the 17,16-position of the pregnane skeleton. As a primary synthetic precursor, 21-Desacetyl Deflazacort is crucial in the manufacturing process of deflazacort, an anti-inflammatory glucocorticoid used to treat conditions such as Duchenne muscular dystrophy and other inflammatory disorders. Its role is strictly confined to the chemical production pathway. Consequently, it is also monitored as a potential process-related impurity in the final active pharmaceutical ingredient (API), requiring control through analytical methods to ensure drug purity and safety. This intermediate is not used therapeutically itself. Its handling requires standard laboratory precautions for fine chemicals. Its commercial and research significance is entirely tied to the production and quality control of the parent drug, deflazacort.
