    Product Description:
4-Chlorophenoxyacetic acid (4-CPA) is a synthetic plant growth regulator belonging to the auxin family. It is a white to off-white crystalline powder with the molecular formula C8H7ClO3. As a chlorinated derivative of phenoxyacetic acid, it functions by mimicking the natural plant hormone indole-3-acetic acid (IAA). Its primary and most significant application is in agriculture as a plant growth regulator. It is widely used to promote fruit set and prevent premature fruit drop in various crops, most notably in tomatoes, grapes, and citrus fruits. It enhances cell division and elongation, leading to larger, seedless (parthenocarpic) fruits. Additionally, it finds use as a herbicide and a synthetic intermediate in organic chemistry for the production of other agrochemicals and pharmaceuticals. Handling requires standard laboratory precautions. It is moderately toxic and can cause irritation to the skin, eyes, and respiratory system. Proper personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves and safety glasses is recommended during use.
