    Product Description:
Potassium D-luciferin is the potassium salt of D-luciferin, a heterocyclic carboxylic acid with the molecular formula C11H7N2O3S2·K. It is a key substrate for the firefly luciferase enzyme (Luc) and serves as the standard for bioluminescence imaging (BLI). Its primary application is in non-invasive in vivo imaging for biomedical research. Upon injection into a laboratory animal (e.g., mouse) expressing luciferase, D-luciferin is converted by the enzyme into oxyluciferin in an ATP-dependent reaction, emitting visible light (~560 nm). This allows for real-time, longitudinal monitoring of biological processes such as tumor growth, metastasis, gene expression, and treatment efficacy in living subjects. It is a cornerstone reagent for studies in oncology, immunology, and infectious diseases. The potassium salt formulation offers improved solubility in aqueous buffers compared to the free acid, facilitating preparation of stock solutions for in vivo administration. It is considered to have low toxicity and is widely used due to its high sensitivity, specificity, and the ability to perform quantitative analysis from the emitted photons.
