It is a cationic surfactant, appearing as a white to off-white crystalline powder or viscous liquid, highly soluble in water and polar solvents. Its primary application is as a cationic surfactant in industrial and household formulations, including fabric softeners, hair conditioners, and antistatic agents. In the cosmetic industry, it serves as a conditioning agent and emulsifier in shampoos and skin care products. Additionally, DTAC is widely used as a phase transfer catalyst in organic synthesis, a biocide in water treatment, and a disinfectant due to its efficacy against bacteria and algae.
