    Product Description:
DR-3354, also known as (R)-ofloxacin, is the pure R-enantiomer of the racemic fluoroquinolone antibiotic ofloxacin. It is a chiral compound with the chemical name (R)-9-fluoro-2,3-dihydro-3-methyl-10-(4-methyl-1-piperazinyl)-7-oxo-7H-pyrido[1,2,3-de]-1,4-benzoxazine-6-carboxylic acid. This compound is the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) for the drug levofloxacin, a broad-spectrum antibacterial agent. Levofloxacin is widely used in clinical practice to treat various bacterial infections, including respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and others. Its mechanism of action involves inhibition of bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes critical for DNA replication, transcription, and repair. As the single active enantiomer, (R)-ofloxacin (levofloxacin) exhibits significantly higher antibacterial activity and a better safety profile compared to its S-enantiomer and the racemic mixture. It is a key example of a chiral switch in pharmaceutical development, highlighting the importance of stereochemistry in drug efficacy and safety.
