    Product Description:
Solketal, also known as 2,2-dimethyl-4-hydroxymethyl-1,3-dioxolane, is a cyclic acetal derived from glycerol and acetone. It is a colorless liquid with a mild odor, serving as a protected form of glycerol where the 1,2-diol is masked as an isopropylidene ketal. Its primary application is as a versatile solvent and co-solvent in pharmaceutical and cosmetic formulations, valued for its low toxicity, biodegradability, and ability to dissolve both polar and non-polar compounds. In organic synthesis, Solketal is a key building block for producing mono- and di-glycerides, glycidyl ethers, and various chiral intermediates, as it provides a convenient handle for selective functionalization at the primary hydroxyl group while protecting the diol. It is also used as a fuel additive to reduce particulate emissions and improve cold flow properties.
